Microsoft Edge is the successor to the infamous Internet Explorer. It was first released in 2015, with a strong orientation towards web standards. It uses a proprietary rendering engine, EdgeHTML, which is a fork of the Internet Explorer engine stripper for legacy code, including ActiveX.

In 2018, the market share was still only 2%, less than the 5 year old Internet Explorer 11.
